Stripe has unveiled a new product called Payout Links, a simplified way for businesses to send payments to individuals without requiring them to build a full payout infrastructure. The feature is designed for gig platforms, marketplaces, and freelance-based services, allowing recipients to access funds via a secure, shareable link.
Instead of asking platforms to integrate complex APIs or build custom onboarding flows, Stripe now lets businesses send a single-use link to payees via email or text. Recipients click the link, verify their identity, and choose how they’d like to receive their money—whether through bank transfer, debit card, or digital wallet.
This no-code approach aims to help smaller platforms or rapidly growing apps pay workers and sellers without delays or developer overhead. For example, a local delivery startup or an event marketplace can pay hundreds of gig workers instantly by generating links from their Stripe dashboard.
John Collison, President and Co-founder of Stripe, emphasized that the goal is to reduce payment friction for both businesses and end users. “As the internet economy grows more fragmented and mobile, we’re giving platforms more tools to move money faster and with less technical lift,” he said.
Payout Links comes with compliance checks, identity verification, and tax reporting baked in—features previously available only to platforms with custom integrations. Stripe is also supporting payouts in over 45 countries, with real-time options available in select markets.
The product is especially timely given the rise of flexible and temporary work models. Analysts expect that more than 50% of platform-based payouts in the next five years will be made to individuals without formal accounts or onboarding relationships—precisely the niche Stripe is targeting.
📌 Why It Matters:
- Enables instant, no-code payouts for global gig economy participants
- Reduces integration barriers for small businesses and startups
- Expands Stripe’s presence in competitive marketplace fintech
